The Old Castle

Erected during the 14th century by Olivier de Clisson, three hundred years of the island's history are engraved in this castle destroyed at the end of the 17 th century by Louis XIV. It survived numerous invasions, in particular, the one made by an english pirate in 1355. The english occupied the island during 37 years afterwards.

The lighthouse

In 1829, a lighthouse 29 meters high was built. There wasn't enough light and thus poor visibility with the old system so in 1895, an electric revolving light was added. In 1944, before leaving, the Occupation's army destroyed the lighthouse. Due to lack of secure navigation, a new modern lighthouse was built in 1951. It's now 41 meters high, topped with a halogen lamp with a 28 miles range.
